The Papua New Guinea Taekwondo team for the South Pacific Games have received a sponsorship from Melanesian Trustee Services Limited (MTSL) of K4000.00. The team consisting of 18 fighters including 8 females will travel to Noumea this weekend on the second Air Niugini charter.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTSL, Kennedy Wemin, who made the presentation said it was the first time the company sponsored a team and were happy that it was taekwondo (TKD). He said while TKD was not given that much publicity, they (TKD) have been a great performer.

Meanwhile PNG TKD Federation president Ower Ila while thanking the company and said their goal is now to win a gold medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London and preparations to achieve their Olympic Dream” is underway with a fundraising drive planned for next year. He has also mentioned that an unnamed major movie star was on the draw to be invited.

In boxing, pugilists Henry Umings and Charlie Keama are undergoing intensive training with Coach Ricky Berua in preparations for the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Isle of Man, United Kingdom, for the past two months. Berua is confident the boxers will do well. They will be travelling out on Sunday.
