Please take note before reading any further. This is conspiracy theory and nothing more. It is a personal opinion formulated and should not be considered as fact.

In the last couple of years, there seems to have been a population explosion in Port Moresby. The majority of people coming into the city seem to be from the Highlands region and there are many reasons for that. However, I have a conspiracy theory about this movement.

The sudden influx of people could be part of a conspiracy.

The migration only started within the last couple of years. It also coincided with the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project and the upcoming elections. Many people are assuming that these people are migrating down to the city because of the spin off opportunities being created by the project. However, it could be easier to start spin off business within their local areas. On the contrary, I believe the mass migration is coordinated and funded by unscrupulous people who stand to lose a lot because of the current Governor’s bid to clean up the city.

The whole thing is an elaborate ploy to have the Governor ousted in the next election. The same tactic has been used by former politicians in the city. This resulted in a number of illegal settlements that are now flourishing.

Certain unscrupulous people mass migrate their wantoks into the city between the spaces of a year to six months before the elections. When election time arrives, these people do what is commonly referred to as ‘block voting’. The time frame they are moved ensures their eligibility to vote within their ‘new’ designated target electorate. It also ensures that the person or persons financing them does not have to do it for an extended period of time.

So there you have it. The conspiracy is to oust Governor Parkop and have some cronies in power. This is done by bringing in voters from other centre on the eve of elections but with enough time to legally vote.
